Our favourite pieces of paper with their tiny black letters. The tea or coffee cup on the table. The warmth of our beds and the rain outside.. From somewhere one little ball of fur comes and lays over you begging for your attention..Isn’t this the perfect moment. Everything is calm and quiet. The stress is an unknown word for now… Then the reality hits you.
For sure books are the perfect ways the relieve the stress from the bad day and bring joy to your life. Every keen reader knows How To Book in their own way. But what happens when the stress is caused by the book? Yeah, that is possible too and for the ”new” in our paper smelly world now, I’ll tell you some tricks about the situations that bring the ”stress” and how to deal with them, so you can continue the journey.
1.YOU CAN’T READ EVERYTHING.
Sorry to tell you this bad new, but it’s true. Sadly our time and energy are limited. Sometimes while your nose is stuck in the pages you forget about the world around you and even your own existence. Then something distracts you and everything ”falls apart”. Hunger and fatigue strikes as your sore eyes close slowly realising you haven’t done a thing. From the shelves the new and old titles glare at you with blame waiting their forgotten hour as you read the new books you’ve bought.
The way to deal with this is actually easy. The first thing to do is to accept it. You are not capable of reading every book you want to for a little time. To avoid the feeling of blame try to bring home fewer books and reading the ones you already have. It’s not problem, that they aren’t new anymore. It’s not a problem that you’ve forgotten them for a while. Don’t worry, they’ll forgive you when you finally touch them. After all, that’s what they’ve been waiting for. You can always buy the new one which caught your eye in the shop later. It won’t run away.
2. C.H.O.R.E.S.- Yeah, this one again. Chores with capital letters. Or like I say Crying Hour Of the Rising Eternal Sorrow. No, it’s not too dramatic. We all know how bad they really are especially when you’re on the most interesting part or sank deep deep into the letters. You’ve just started and from the door your mother comes with the ”’WHY HAVEN’T YOU WASHED THE DISHES?” or ” I TOLD YOU TO CLEAN YOUR ROOM!” and the lecture starts over and over again like the previous time. Not only that but when you know you have something to do and try to read your precious brain won’t stop thinking about the work you haven’t finished. It eats you alive little by little, piece by piece…
Again, easy but not that pleasant solution. Do it. Just do the goddamn chores before that so you can read with clear mind and don’t have to worry about them later. Well… it’s in parents’ nature to think of more and more things for you to do right when you actually found something interesting, but this is something with which we just have to deal quietly. No one have found the answer to it yet.
3. You can’t afford it.- You stare at the book. You touch it. Smell it. Feel it and read the back cover. It enchants you. You want it. You want it so bad. Then leave it on its place and walk off the store. Yeah, I know the pain dear.. You’re mad at yourself for not collecting enough money or spending them on something else, but that’s life. Unfortunately, books are not cheap. Especially when you’re teen with no work and your parents often forget to give you money even for school because you get up earlier from them. But that’s Ok.
Something you already know will help you with your dilemma. People had created libraries for that long ago. Well..they may not be big like in the movies but are still very good places. If you have luck, you may find the newest titles or the exactly same book you’ve fallen for so hard. It even helps you choose what to read when you look at the shelves. Moreover they offer a great atmosphere. The feeling may not be the same as owning the book, but it’s still better than nothing, isn’t it?
4. My favourite: The main( or our beloved) character dies.- Familiar right? Every single person familiar with the so popular now ”The Fault in Our Stars”( and not only. I’ll add here Game of thrones, All the bright places, Harry Potter and lots more) knows the feeling. It can be very painful, breaking, shocking and hundreds of similar ideas. But this isn’t enough. Of course the creator wants to torture us even more, so there are about 100 more pages for how the life continues without them. Well this is actually what real life is like, but we don’t search for it, right? So.. you break down, cry, scream and throw things all over the room. Punch walls and break dishes and mirrors. You want to finish the book, although you want to tear it and never look at it again, because you don’t think you could handle it even one second more. Despite that, something from inside wants to know the end. Sighs to understand what happens and leaves you in confused in ruins…
My suggestion here is: don’t hurry. We all know it’s not just fictional characters. This is a real person in one distant world you dares to taste. Well..this world won’t escape. It’ll be here forever, written and remembered. Have your time overcoming you emotional heart attack and when you’ve calmed down( it may take hours or days) then finish it. Cry out your soul, don’t hold it back. I won’t judge you. And after it’s all over don’t grab the next reading. Wait until this one leaves you and you’re capable of function properly. Books leaves wounds too and we need to time heal them.
So.. this is one part of the problems that our friends bring and simple tricks to deal with them. Hope that I was able to help you and make it joyful. See ya soon ❤
